Edward K. Hayes (1870-1956) and Elsie Wardwell Hayes (1869-1962)

"Images of America/Emmett and Gem County," by Julianne Rekow Peterson and the Gem County Historical Society.

E.K. Hayes owned a mercantile company in Emmett and was interested in many aspects of business. He married Elsie Wardwell, James Wardwell's daughter. Hayes worked diligently to get the town of Emmett incorporated, and he and W.R. Cartwright organized the community's first bank at 137 West Main Street. Ed Hayes was remembered as one who got things done and as a quick thinker.
