Heartfelt sentiment has sometimes inspired the creation of handmade Valentine Cards. Recipients have often treated those valentines as treasured keepsakes and a select few have survived to enter museum collections. The Gem County Historical Museum has a collection of beautiful Valentine Cards from the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era comprised the period of Queen Victoria's reign in England from June 20, 1837-January 22, 1901. Most of the cards were in the collection of Mrs. Downey, a 4th grade teacher in Emmett.
After the Valentine’s cards came the wedding. The Sunbonnet Signature Quilt from the 1930’s was a wedding shower gift from the Hanna Ladies Club. Each member appliqued and quilted a square and each of the members embroidered their name on the square they worked.
